Notice of Price Increase

On January first, 2018, some Oasis pricing will increase. The price for single men on Sunday night, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will increase to $80.  The other major pricing will stay the same: $95 for couples on Friday and Saturday, $80 for couples on Thursday, $20 for women on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and no charge for women on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The reason for the price increase is the very large increase to the Ontario minimum wage that is also effective on January first. Oasis customer service people are paid minimum wage, plus they pool and share the tips. So the base wage for them will be going up from $11.60 per hour to $14.00 per hour. This increase will increase Oasis’ costs by over $10,000 per month, so we felt that we had no option but to increase our customer pricing. We do not expect that the price increase will cover the full cost increase, but it will hopefully offset it significantly.

Oasis does everything legally and by the book, including paying all our staff with full deductions, issuing T4’s, and adhering to the legal employment standards. It appears that many other bars in Toronto of all types pay their bar staff in cash, and so are not effected by things like minimum wage increases. We prefer to operate legally, but in this case, it is quite costly to do so. Hopefully our customers value the way we operate the business, and understand the position it puts us in.

We hope that our customers will be able to continue to come to Oasis, and feel that it represents good value. We will work hard to give good customer service, and help our customers have good experiences. Hopefully the large pay increase will motivate the staff even more than they already are, and the standard of customer service will rise even higher than it already is. Please let us know if you have any concerns about this.

Road Trip to Naughty in Nawlins

We had heard great things about ‘Naughty in Nawlins’ so decided to hit the road in July and we had an amazing time. The four-day annual event for couples kicked off on the 4th of July with a group field trip to watch the dueling fireworks show by two barges over the river in New Orleans, just a short walk from the host hotel. The Astor Crowne Plaza right next to the famous Bourbon Street, along with another hotel nearby, get completely taken over for this event. Billed as the largest swinger convention in the world they have 600 couples attending each year. Oasis had a table among other vendors and was spreading the word about the club to our US neighbours.

Each day there are workshops at the hotel by sex educators, plus an entire floor of the hotel was transformed to a series of focused playrooms, including space for everything from the dungeon, to a dark room, to the orgy room. Each evening the hotel grand ballroom played host to a themed ball which was a spectacle to behold–attendees at this event go all out for costumes! I’ve attended many clubs with themes and wasn’t prepared for the high percentage of ‘Naughty’ couples who came ready with costumes for each night. This event is organized by Bob and Tess, owners of French Connection Events, are from New Orleans and besides being amazing hosts, they run a naughty cruise and this year have expanded to offer a ‘Naughty In LA’ event right before one of their Naughty Cruise launches and heads to Alaska. You can attend either event separately or attend Naughty  in LA and keep the party going on the cruise.

One of the great things about Naughty in Nawlins was that they partnered with local bars to offer a number of offsite events so you didn’t just come to the hotel and stay there. Most of the venues where events were held had live bands, even on the weekday days. My favourite venue and event was the bull riding, where I tried riding the bull for the first time ever –naked of course. These venues ensured that only those with the convention passes attended so we knew that everyone there was ‘one of us’. Another highlight was the swinger parade where we were all encouraged to wear white and make signs (cardboard and markets provided) and they gave us complimentary parasols to twirl as we walked. Just like in Treme, the HBO series, our parade was led by a New Orleans marching band and we made sure the locals knew we were there. My favourite sign read “Don’t hate us cause you ain’t us”, a great swinger motto. The food was awesome with most restaurants offering their version of a Po Boy (a gourmet sandwich).

The Crowne Plaza is a wonderful host hotel with an outdoor pool on the third floor where people were naked and no one seemed to mind quiet sex taking place. With the balcony overlooking Bourbon Street, you could safely watch the night life taking place and drop appreciative beads to those that would flash for you. They wisely didn’t schedule any morning events, but there were generally at least two things to do at any given time, so there was never a dull moment. Many people left their hotel room doors open to invite those walking by to introduce themselves, watch or come join the fun. We found the people very friendly and even met some fellow Canadians.

Overall, we would return to this well run event in a heartbeat. In fact, Oasis is going to organize a group to attend next year, so we hope you’ll join us in NOLA July 25 to July 29, 2018. In the meantime, if you can’t wait that long and are looking for a fun fall trip this year to enjoy some final heat before winter hits, we encourage you to attend Naughty in La starting Sep 30, 2017 or join any of the French Connection Events. Be sure to tell them that Oasis sent you.

Oasis Road Trip ~Frolicon & Nashville 2016

May 6-May 10, 2016

What better way to kick off the spirit of summer then going on a road trip. A motley assortment of Oasis Aqualounge employees piled into a twelve seat Mercedes Passenger Van at the crack of dawn on Thursday morning; all ready for the long haul to Frolicon in Atlanta, Georgia. The excitement for the trip managed to out weigh the over all sleepiness felt by all ten co-worker’s and before they knew it they reached the Windsor/Detroit border, the first leg of the journey.

As Tim Horton’s morphed into Waffle Houses and the landscapes became lush, green rolling hills it was apparent the destination was getting closer. Normally the drive to Atlanta is about fourteen/fifteen hours but unfortunately due to late night construction as the highway split to Atlanta the Oasis “Bang Bus” (as Marketing Coordinator Holly dubbed it), made the journey in a whopping seventeen and a half! The very weary Oasis team arrived at the Sheraton Hotel for Frolicon at nearly 3:00 am Friday morning!

The next two days at Frolicon were a whirlwind of networking, promoting, attending workshops, meeting new friends, playing, partying and definitely not a lot of sleeping. In true Oasis style some outrageous activities happened off the clock; such as hotel room tattoos, random hook ups and a late night trip to the local strip clubs. The Clermount Lounge, located in the basement of a condemned hotel was more of an attraction then a strip club…you’d have to see it to believe it! Cheetahs was the holy grail of strip clubs, it featured a buffet of the hottest women and you could even smoke inside. Needless to say we were glad we saved our “singles” for tipping at Cheetahs, the lap dances were epic.

On Sunday May 8th the gang piled back into the “Bang Bus” again for the next part of the trip; the vacation to Nashville, Tennessee. On the way out of Atlanta the group had to make a pit stop at the famous fast food joint Varsity’s, an Atlanta tradition since 1928. Full of smiles, cheeseburgers, fries & milk shakes the troupe drove onward an easy three and a half hours to Music City.

The next day and half was filled with honky tonk bars (Roberts was so good they hit it up twice), authentic Tennessee BBQ, sight seeing, shopping, tattoos and even more debauchery. The highlight was at Coyote Ugly’s, where the Oasis gals took turns dancing on the bar and nearly got the “boot”for being too risqué! Nashville was such a lively city, the group packed in as much as possible but a few more days would have been perfect.

Tuesday morning at 10:00 am the group left Nashville titillated, more tattooed and tuckered out. Their long journey home fell silent as well deserved sleep crept in. The group arrived back in Toronto safe and sound clocking in a fourteen and a half hour return trip. Six days on the road, ten Oasis staff and countless memories made this road trip one hell of a hedonistic adventure!
